The European Green Hydrogen Acceleration Center (EGHAC) as an enabler for the REPowerEU ambition

The decarbonisation of industry and scaling up of demand and supply of green hydrogen is at the heart of the REPowerEU proposal. EIT InnoEnergy welcomes this ambition as green hydrogen will play a key role in decarbonising hard-to-abate industries and heavy transport.

In particular, the European Commission underlined the strategic importance of green hydrogen by doubling the EU’s green hydrogen production target previously set out in the European Hydrogen Strategy to over 10 million tons of domestic production.

All green hydrogen and derivates production start with renewable energy, so therefore we welcome the increased ambition to deliver 45% renewable energy by 2030 and measures to lift deployment bottlenecks such as permitting.  With our unique value chain approach which includes the off-taker right from the start we believe the increased target for renewable hydrogen in industry by 2030 is achievable and contributing to the decarbonization of hard-to-abate industries.

Meeting this ambition depends on innovative hydrogen projects reaching commercial scale earlier and with bigger impact. EIT InnoEnergy and its European Green Hydrogen Acceleration Center is looking forward to continuing its partnership with the European Commission in offering acceleration and de-risking services for green hydrogen projects.
